Free DLC | Cosmetics | Boosters | Soundtrack | Items | Characters | Maps | Expansions |
Modding support | Banned | None | Limited | Full | This version has compatibility issues with mods for the original version. As an aside, the modding community is extemly leftist and are prone to take down anything they consider to be anti-PC. The most famous example being the guy who made the awful Civil War Overhaul mod. Who after realizing that some of the people downloading his mod were Trump supporters, deleted his game from the Nexus Mod's and left this. |
False advertising | No | Yes | It was marketed as the "ULTIMATE SKYRIM EXPERIENCE". Instead it's a more expensive version of the orginal with shitty god-ray mods and whatever fucking screen-space is? |
Demo availability | No | Yes |
Bugs at launch | None | Insubstantial | Moderate | Heavy | Crashing. Enemies floating off. Breaks the majority of quests in Skyrim. Missing sounds. Many more, see here. |
Multiplayer | Local | Official server | P2P | LAN | User servers | Unofficial | None available. |
Comparison to originals / fanmade mods | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Category | Included in HD Edition | Included in original Skyrim | Sources / Comments |
Bug Fixes | No | Yes | Somehow Bethesda has made this version of Skyrim even buggier than the orginal. This of course is the a worthwhile point as all Bethesda games are buggier than the Amazon. |
Frame Rate Improvements | No | Yes | It could be my old hardware but, The Special Edition somehow manages to run worse than my 100+ modded playthrough of the orginal. Of course there are mods to fix this but most of them are only compatible with the original. |
Better Mod Support | No | Yes | Continuing on with the previous point. Most mods do not work with the Special Edition, as they updated the Gamebryo engine. This also effects the most important Skyrim mods, the sex mods. |
GNU/Linux Port | No | No | >Implying Linux even has games. There is a page on the WineHQ wiki on how to install the game on GNU/Linux https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=24749#notes |
Expansions | Yes | No | Whilst not being able to add any mod-sized expansions, The Enhanced Edition does come with all the shitty expansions released for Skyrim. |
Gamer's Opinion
Skyrim Special Edition is a cash-grab of the highest degree. You can question the quality of the original release but, at least you currently don't have to pay for the right to use free mods. The Special Edition is just an expensive pre-modded version of Skyrim with worse performance, shitter mod support and fucking paid mods. Avoid this edition like the plague.
